Hannibal, the multimodal transport operator of the Contship Italia Group, announced on 27th November 2024 the introduction of a new direct rail link between Melzo (Milan) and Marcianise (Caserta), starting from 3rd December. The service will feature two weekly round trips between the Rail Hub Milano terminal and the Marcianise-Maddaloni terminal: departures from Melzo are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the return from Marcianise will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. From the first quarter of 2025, the frequency will be increased to three trips per week.
Each train will have a capacity of 32 loading units, accommodating all types of containers by using low-bed wagons. Rail traction will be provided by Oceanogate, the Contship Group's operator specialising in freight rail services. “The flexibility in transporting a wide range of units, combined with value-added services such as storage and cargo transshipment onto trailers, enables us to adapt to the specific requirements of each shipment,” explained Andrea Spagnuolo, Sales & Business Development Manager at Contship Italia. “Moreover, we can enhance our offering by ensuring efficient customs operations with grounded containers, as well as first and last mile transport by truck.”
