At a time when some global maritime alliances are undergoing significant changes, the Ocean Alliance has declared stability through to the early next decade. On February 27, 2024, its members - CMA CGM, Cosco Shipping, Evergreen, and OOCL - announced that their agreement for sharing container ships will remain in effect until March 2032. This decision comes as a notable development following the dissolution of the 2M alliance between Maersk and MSC (scheduled for 2025) and Hapag-Lloyd's departure from The Alliance (which will continue with HMM, Ocean Network Express, and Yang Ming) to join the new Gemini alliance with Maersk, set to start in February 2025.
Established in 2017, Ocean Alliance currently covers seven routes between Asia and Northern Europe, Asia and the Mediterranean, and Asia and the United States' west coast. One of its members, Cosco Shipping, has revealed plans to deploy 20,000 TEU container ships to the Mediterranean starting March 2024. These vessels will also call at two Italian ports: the PSA Pra' terminal in Genoa and the La Spezia Container Terminal.
