On September 11, 2024, Bloomberg reported that Pontegadea Inversiones had purchased logistics assets in Italy for €327 million through its investment arm Ortega Pontegadea Inversiones. While the investment firm confirmed the acquisition, it did not provide further details. The purchase includes facilities in the Milan and Rome areas. This marks Pontegadea's first investment in Italy, following its acquisition of a logistics platform in Dublin at the end of 2023, which serves Amazon, as well as properties in the Netherlands, used by Primark Stores, and Luxembourg. The company also owns logistics assets in the United States and Canada, acquired in 2022 with an investment of nearly $1 billion.
The principal shareholder of Pontegadea Inversiones is Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega, ranked the 15th richest person in the world by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with an estimated net worth of $85.4 billion. Ortega is the largest shareholder of Inditex, the parent company of fashion giant Zara, holding a 59.29% stake through Pontegadea Inversiones and Partler Participaciones.
In addition to logistics, Pontegadea Inversiones is also active in renewable energy. In 2023, it allocated €693 million to wind, solar, and other assets, primarily in Spain and France. The company also invests in telecommunications and real estate, particularly in office spaces, which it leases to clients such as Amazon.
