During the session on April 2, 2024, the Management Committee of the Northern Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority formalized a four-year concession to Logiport, part of the Grimaldi Group, for the new ferry terminal at the Civitavecchia port. The terminal includes four quays, namely 27, 28, 29, and 30, as well as the adjoining yards, including what was the "Palazzina Polizze." The concession also saw competition from Ltm (Livorno Maritime Terminal), controlled by rival company Moby, and Gnv (Msc), which, however, was deemed not in line with the tender requirements.
Both Ltm and Gnv have filed appeals to the Regional Administrative Court (Tar) against the award to Logiport (decided in December 2023), requesting the suspension of the concession contract on a precautionary basis, but the administrative judges have rejected this request. The merits of the case have yet to be addressed. Furthermore, the two companies might challenge this latest decision in front of the Tar as well.
The new Civitavecchia ferry dock spans a total area of 68,134 square meters, with quays featuring docks 242 meters long and a seabed depth of ten meters, which reaches fifteen meters at quay 27. Ships up to 255 meters long can dock there. Pino Musolino, President of the Port Authority, stated that this concession "will allow for increased revenue for the entity, while simultaneously reducing the Port Authority's expenses for security, maintenance, and other general costs."
The Northern Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority also announced it has resolved a dispute over the corporate contract for its employees, following a contention lasting over a year that also included five days of strikes. The dispute centered around allowances granted to all personnel employed at the time of the 2016 port authorities reform. The agreement preliminarily addresses this issue.
