PSA Italy announced on 3 December 2024 the purchase of three fully electric and zero-emission E-RTG cranes for the Vecon-PSA Venice container terminal at the Port of Venice. The investment, worth €8.5 million, marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and competitive future in the port sector, with the cranes scheduled to be in service by 2026. This order forms the initial phase of a broader strategic investment plan involving both terminal infrastructure and equipment.
During 2024, Vecon-PSA Venice has already seen the introduction of four new reach stackers, with an additional two units set to arrive in 2025. In parallel, the terminal operator has completed resurfacing and paving works on the yard, along with the development of new paths for industrial vehicles, aimed at improving internal traffic flow and operational efficiency. Another notable improvement is the expansion of the refrigerated goods storage system with the creation of new reefer racks, increasing the capacity for refrigerated plug-in points by 96 units. This expansion was made to meet the rising market demand for controlled-temperature goods transportation. For its personnel, PSA has also introduced new changing rooms and a rest area.
“We are proud to announce this new step forward in our investments: this initial phase, planned in 2024, is part of our commitment of over €80 million, announced in June 2023 during the renewal of our terminal concession here in Marghera,” said Daniele Marchiori, General Manager of PSA Venice-Vecon. “The introduction of three new E-RTGs represents not only a significant technological leap that will allow us to further improve our service levels, but also a clear demonstration of our commitment to sustainability and innovation, which are key elements for ensuring competitiveness in the global market.”
