Qatar Airways Cargo revealed on 4th November 2024 that it had signed an MoU with Japan Airlines to bolster cooperation and enhance product offerings for air cargo customers. The agreement outlines an expansion of collaboration between the two operators, aiming to improve connectivity and optimise operational synergies. This understanding follows the announcement earlier in 2024 regarding Japan Airlines' launch of daily passenger services connecting Tokyo Haneda Airport in Japan with Hamad International Airport in Qatar.
The partnership involves the integration of the networks of both airlines through their hubs in Doha and Tokyo, with the aim of improving network connectivity and expanding the range of destinations available to customers. This will link Japan with Qatar Airways' extensive network in Europe, the Middle East, Levant, and Africa, and vice versa. Customers will benefit from greater connectivity and access to a broader selection of destinations.
Qatar Airways Cargo and JALcargo have committed to streamlining the transfer of cargo between the two carriers, ensuring a more efficient process for customers. Both parties will intensify their cooperation by optimising their respective networks and plan to extend the partnership across various areas. The collaboration is set to be further strengthened next year when Qatar Airways Cargo launches services between Hamad International Airport and Japan Airlines' Tokyo Narita hub.
The two companies anticipate that the partnership will generate significant economic value by improving trade flows between the regions served by Japan Airlines and those served by Qatar Airways Cargo. Over the past twelve months, the two airlines have transported 4,462 tonnes of import/export cargo in Japan, underscoring the importance of their collaboration. The agreement and ongoing commitment to partnership will allow for further growth in this figure in the years to come.
