Alessandria has long positioned itself as a logistical and intermodal hub connecting the Ligurian ports and the north-western part of Italy on one side, and Central Europe on the other. Advancing in this direction, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana has devised a project for a one hundred-hectare platform in the Piedmont city, with an estimated value of 250 million euros. The project is divided into two sections: one covering thirty hectares for the railway terminal, and the other seventy hectares designated for an intermodal and logistics platform.
In March 2024, Rfi unveiled the Technical and Economic Feasibility Project for the railway terminal, which will include four tracks each 750 meters long equipped with three portal cranes. The goal is to commence construction by the end of 2025. Concurrently, Fs Sistemi Urbani introduced the Masterplan for the intermodal and logistics platform, set to host a facility for the sorting of goods, logistics spaces, and a parking area for truckers. This initiative will be open to private investors, and the program anticipates the selection of a concept by next June.
