During a routine road check, a patrol from the Imperia Ovest Traffic Police stopped an articulated lorry belonging to a Slovak transportation company traveling from Eastern Europe to Spain. Upon examining the tachograph, officers discovered that the driver, of Uzbek origin, had driven without rest for eighteen hours one day and fourteen hours the next. During the inspection, officers also found a second tachograph card registered to another driver.
At the end of the inspection, the truck driver received a report detailing 43 violations, amounting to a €17,000 fine. Additionally, the officers confiscated the driver's license and the tachograph card belonging to his colleague. This incident marks the second case in a few days of a truck driver being caught significantly exceeding the allowed driving hours. Following a previous case in Bari, the Italian Federation of Road Hauliers (Fai) has urged the government to enforce the shared responsibility within the supply chain and to reinstate Mobile Inspection Centers.
