At the beginning of June 2024, the Italian Competition and Market Authority approved the acquisition of the Tuscan forwarder Foppiani Shipping & Logistics by the Danish company Scan Global Logistics, marking the latter's entry into the Italian logistics market. This acquisition is the latest in a series of takeovers by SGL in Europe, following similar moves in Portugal, Romania, Switzerland, and Ukraine. "Establishing a presence in Italy to support our growth trajectory has long been a necessary goal to complete SGL's presence in the major European economies," the company stated in a note.
Allan Melgaard, Global CEO of SGL, added, "Italy has long been a priority for SGL, and we are excited to welcome Foppiani to our family. From the first meeting, it was clear there was an 'alignment' in business practices, customer focus, and employee care. Italy represents a huge opportunity across various sectors, and we firmly believe that Foppiani is the right platform to further grow our business with both existing and new customers."
Foppiani Shipping & Logistics was founded in 2007 in Prato and specializes in shipments for the fashion, retail, and automotive sectors. The company employs approximately 160 people and generates an annual turnover of 115 million euros through several offices in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States. Scan Global Logistics employs 3,500 people across 160 offices worldwide.
