In recent years, Schmitz Cargobull's European spare parts business has experienced significant growth. To support this expansion and ensure fast, reliable delivery of over 80,000 spare parts, the company has enhanced its central logistics platform in Altenberge with a new narrow-aisle warehouse, which significantly increases storage space. This site will also distribute spare parts for Berger light vehicles, further expanding the available offerings.
The new facility, manually operated, features eight aisles with shelf heights reaching 14 meters. With a capacity of approximately 3,300 pallet spaces, the warehouse is designed to accommodate various shelf heights, allowing for efficient space utilization. The reorganization of materials under one roof enables shorter internal warehouse routes, improving process quality and reducing delivery times.
Moreover, since January 2023, Schmitz Cargobull has implemented fully digital processes in the central warehouse, from delivery to loading. Employees use wrist and finger scanners, as well as industrial tablets, to ensure efficient and secure operations.
The platform is connected to Schmitz Cargobull's Epos (Electronic Parts Documentation and Ordering System) portal, a comprehensive digital platform offering a wide selection of around 80,000 items. The portal serves as a convenient "one-stop shop" for the service network and customers with their own workshops, providing access to all Schmitz Cargobull spare parts and those of other manufacturers. Over 1.4 million vehicles are now registered on the Epos portal. By entering the chassis number, buyers can easily identify the necessary spare parts and order them through the online store, regardless of opening hours or call center availability.
Britta Sprey, Managing Director of Cargobull Parts & Services, explains, "We now have 29 distribution centers across Europe to supply our workshops and customers with the most common spare parts 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The central warehouse in Altenberge serves as a distribution hub for Germany and Austria. From here, we supply international distribution centers several times a day or, if necessary, can deliver directly to our service partners across Europe."
