On August 1, 2024, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles released the first details and images of the new Transporter generation. This iteration features numerous technical and functional improvements, offering more space, greater cargo capacity, and enhanced efficiency. While maintaining its distinctive style, the new Transporter has been transformed to meet contemporary demands. It will be available in three variants (Kombi, van, and pickup) and as the Caravelle for passenger transport, with options for turbodiesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric drivetrains. Additionally, all-wheel drive will be an option.
Volkswagen offers the new Transporter in various configurations: a cargo van for transporting goods, a Van Plus with a second row of seats, the Kombi for passenger transport, and a double cab with a pickup bed. The Kombi and the van are available with a high roof and long wheelbase as options. The Caravelle, ideal for commercial passenger transport, comes in base, Life, and Style versions, with an extended wheelbase option. Another notable version is the PanAmericana, which features a rugged design for difficult terrain and exclusive details.
The German manufacturer is expanding its range of powertrains. In addition to the latest TDI turbodiesel engines, plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants will also be available. TDI engines can already be ordered with outputs of 81 kW (110 HP), 110 kW (150 HP), and 125 kW (170 HP), as well as a plug-in hybrid producing 171 kW (232 HP). The electric versions will feature motors with outputs of 100 kW (136 HP), 160 kW (218 HP), and 210 kW (286 HP) with a 64 kWh battery. Moreover, a reduced-power electric version is planned for urban transport.
The new Transporter also features an updated driver's seat. The vehicle starts with a button located next to the 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 13-inch infotainment display. The multifunction steering wheel and ergonomic layout of the controls enhance driver comfort. The high, clear dashboard, elevated seating position, and practical storage compartments facilitate daily work.
The seventh Transporter has grown in all dimensions, with an overall length of 5,050 mm, extendable to 5,450 mm with the long wheelbase. The spacious cargo area can hold up to 9.0 cubic meters of goods, while the towing capacity can reach 2.8 tons. The new versions come equipped with LED lights, digital instruments, an advanced infotainment system, electronic parking brake, and numerous standard driver assistance systems.
