On June 30, 2024, after a trial phase, the Spanish company Tramesa launched a combined road-rail transport service between the port of Valencia and Madrid. This service also caters to semi-trailers arriving from Genoa by sea and destined for the interior of Spain. According to Tramesa, this connection could transfer over ten thousand units per year from road to rail. The project also saw collaboration from the railway company Medway, controlled by MSC, and the Spanish rail infrastructure manager Adif. In the future, Tramesa may extend this route to Portugal. The Spanish company has also planned five other rail connections for semi-trailers from Zaragoza to Huelva and Seville, from Lisbon to Valencia, and from Azuqueca to Tarragona.
