Garbe secures land for new logistics hub in Tortona
Garbe Industrial Real Estate Italy has announced the acquisition of a 265,000-square-metre plot in Tortona for the construction of a 102,000-square-metre logistics park. Situated along the Genoa-Milan motorway, the project aims to meet LEED Platinum standards, ensuring minimal environmental impact and high sustainability. Located at a key European freight transport junction, the development will involve GSE Goldbeck as the general contractor. With a 16-month development plan, Garbe seeks to address the rising demand for advanced logistics facilities in Northern Italy, offering cutting-edge infrastructure.
DSV receives half of the required approvals for DB Schenker acquisition
Logistics giant DSV has secured approvals from half of the competition authorities for its acquisition of DB Schenker, according to Bloomberg News. Countries that have already granted clearance include China, Switzerland, Brazil, Canada, and the UK. "We are engaged in constructive dialogues with the remaining authorities," CFO Michael Ebbe stated in a written comment, expressing confidence in obtaining all necessary approvals. To finance the €14.3 billion deal, DSV has issued €5 billion in bonds.
Evergreen places order for 60,500 containers
Evergreen has ordered 60,500 containers at a total cost of nearly $187 million. According to filings with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, 23,000 containers will be supplied by the CXIC Group, 21,000 by Guangdong Fuwa Equipment Manufacturing, and 16,500 by Dong Fang International, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Development. The container manufacturing sector is seeing a surge in orders, partly due to the Red Sea crisis, which has strained shipping capacity and equipment availability. Many factories are booked through the end of the year.
Florida ports delegation visits Rome
A delegation of Florida port representatives met with Italian port officials in Rome, coordinated by Assoporti and organised by Select Florida. The meeting included Florida Secretary of Transportation Jared Perdue, delegates from PortMiami and Port Canaveral, and members of Italian Port System Authorities. Discussions centred on innovation and sustainability, aiming to establish a joint protocol. Assoporti President Rodolfo Giampieri highlighted the importance of cooperation to enhance port operations. A follow-up meeting is scheduled in the US during the STC Global conference in April 2025.
Amazon marks a decade of investment in Poland
Amazon has invested nearly €7 billion in Poland between 2012 and 2023, as detailed in an annual report by Keystone. This equates to over €1.6 million per day, funding job creation, innovative technologies, logistics, and support for local SMEs. Over the past decade, the multinational has created approximately 70,000 direct and indirect jobs in Poland and continues to expand its operations. Italy and Egypt hold talks on hydrogen development
The Port System Authority of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea participated in the European Hydrogen Week to strengthen its collaboration with the Port of Damietta, initiated in June, for green hydrogen development. Discussions included an ambitious project to position the Northern Tyrrhenian port system as a European hub for green hydrogen imports, particularly from the southern Mediterranean region.
