Two unions have called for strikes on different dates, impacting transport and logistics in Italy. SiCobas has announced a nationwide general strike for Friday, October 18, 2024, involving workers in freight handling. Workers in railway operations and Enav are excluded, as they have already had category-specific strikes declared for the same month. The strike addresses both a general issue – opposition to the Security Decree – and specific matters related to logistics, including the abolition of the worker-shareholder status in cooperatives, the repeal of articles 11bis and 11quinques of the employment contract for mobile personnel, and a salary increase of 300 euros.
The second strike, called by Usb Mare e Porti, is also nationwide but solely concerns port workers. This strike also targets the Security Decree. In a statement, the union noted, "If it is approved, it is clear that it will become increasingly difficult for every worker in struggle to defend their rights. The inability to organize pickets, occupy factories, or create disruptions or blockades effectively limits union and social action. Banning the reporting of these struggles makes them increasingly invisible."
