The strike at the Vado Gateway container terminal in the Port of Savona - initially declared by the Italian unions for January 15 to 17, 2024, as part of a corporate dispute - has been cancelled. Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti called off the strike after reaching an agreement with the company during a meeting on January 9, 2024. The agreement includes a daily increase of ten euros on flexible workdays and an increase from 20 to 40 euros for shift changes. In addition to the union representatives and Vado Gateway, the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and the Union of Industrialists of Savona also attended the meeting.
However, negotiations are not yet concluded, as the parties have committed to drafting a framework agreement on training and a new contractual classification for maintenance workers and shift leaders. The issue of staff sharing between Vado Gateway and Reefer Terminal (both managed by companies of the APM Terminals Group) remains unresolved, a practice opposed by the unions. On this matter, the Port Authority has committed to carrying out checks and convening the parties.
In a statement, Vado Gateway declares that "with the signing of the supplement to the existing second-level contract concerning Container Terminal staff, a new phase of renewed dialogue between the parties begins, with the common and unwavering goal of protecting the legitimate interests of the workers and striving together for new horizons of growth." The company thanks the extraordinary commissioner of the Port Authority, Paolo Piacenza, and Paolo Canavese, director of the Savona Territorial Office of the same Authority, "for their support provided in the final stage of dialogue with the trade union organizations."
