The launch of the new Aero range propels Volvo Trucks to the pinnacle of power among European industrial vehicles. The range includes the FH16 model, equipped with the new 17-liter Euro VI engine, capable of producing up to 780 horsepower (with additional settings of 600 and 700 horsepower) and compatible with biofuels. The engine's maximum torque reaches 3,800 Nm, accompanied by an upgraded gearbox.
The formidable 780 horsepower is designed for the most demanding tasks, such as heavyweight transport. "When navigating steep slopes at maximum load, the last thing you want is to be hindered by inadequate torque and power. That's why we've focused our efforts on making the D17 engine exceptionally powerful, reliable, and responsive. For our clients, this translates to faster job completion with enhanced fuel efficiency," explains Marcos Weingaertner, Product Manager at Volvo Trucks.
The D17 engine features a single turbocharger and uses Volvo Trucks' patented waved pistons, improving combustion and reducing emissions. The Swedish manufacturer has also upgraded the injection system. Additionally, this engine offers significant braking power, reducing brake wear. As mentioned, the new Volvo engine is also certified to operate with HVO biofuel at all power levels and with 100% B100 biodiesel in the 700 horsepower version.
Sales of the Volvo FH16 with the new engine are set to begin in mid-2024. Production is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2024 for the European and Australian markets.
