Ford Trucks, the heavy-duty vehicle brand of the Turkish company Ford Otosan, and Iveco have confirmed the signing of a binding agreement on 12 March 2025 for the joint development of a new cabin intended for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. This agreement transforms the exclusive, non-binding memorandum of understanding announced on 14 March 2024 into a concrete operational project. The agreement sets out the contractual framework for the joint design and engineering of an innovative cabin for heavy-duty vehicles, and also includes the possible joint procurement of components. The two companies will independently produce and assemble the cabins in their own facilities, customising stylistic details to market them separately under their respective brands.
The cabin developed through this project aims to increase competitiveness for both brands, ensuring compliance with the forthcoming European Direct Vision Standard. In a joint statement, the companies explained that the goal is to deliver an advanced solution that significantly improves aerodynamics, reducing carbon dioxide emissions while ensuring maximum driver comfort and safety. The design will also guarantee cabin modularity, compatibility with all types of propulsion systems, and a strong focus on cost efficiency.
The first cabins developed from this collaboration are expected to enter production in 2028. Through this agreement, Ford Trucks and Iveco will achieve a new generation of modular cabins that surpass previous individual designs, significantly reducing investment costs. The two companies estimate an overall expenditure of €343 million throughout the duration of the agreement.
